South Arkansas Symphony Orchestra
2010-2011 Season: Music of All Nations 

The South Arkansas Symphony takes you on an exciting musical voyage around the world through concerts featuring the nationalistic music of different countries with such works as He & Chen’s The Butterfly Lover’s Concerto, Rimsky-Korsakov’s Capriccio Espagnole, Sibelius’s Finlandia, and  Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 4 in A major “Italian”.  Highlights will also include Respighi’s Ancient Aires & Dances Suite # 1, Albinoni’s Adagio for Organ and Strings, Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suite No. 1, and Borodin’s In the Steppes of Central Asia. 

This concert season will also showcase several pops concerts with a nationalistic flair.   The season opener will be the Music of Pink Floyd with Canadian band Jeans 'n Classics.  In December, the all female, Irish American super group Cherish the Ladies, will put on a Celtic Christmas show featuring singing, playing, and dancing.  The season will end with American Broadway flair in a concert entitled The 3 Phantoms with Craig Schulman, Kevin Gray, and Cris Groenendaal (all who have performed as Phantom on Broadway).

We will have a few non subscription concerts offered to the public.  The first will be Nosferatu, the German re-make of the American classic “Dracula” silent film shown in the haunted Rialto theater with runout concerts throughout Arkansas.  The second concert will be sometime in March as the orchestra presents Coffeehouse Jazz in conjunction with Magnolia Arts. Additional special concert events will be announced throughout the year. 

In addition, spectacular guest artists artists will join us from all over the country.  We will have Anna Bulkina, Russian pianist perform on the same concert with Xiang Gao, violinist.   You will also be delighted with Awadagin Pratt, pianist; Michael Davidson, trombone; and our very own Dr. David Crouse on organ.
